Ambassador Andrew Young Lecture Series

The Africa Society extends its sincere appreciation to the Merck Company for Sponsoring the Ambassador Andrew Young Lecture Series on Africa.

The Ambassador Andrew Young Lecture Series features distinguished speakers whose work has impacted and advanced the agenda of issues affecting the continent of Africa and U.S.-Africa relations. Named in honor of the former Chairman of The Africa Society Board, the Series was launched in 2002 and is hosted at several African embassies on a rotational basis. We have organized a total of 16 lectures for the Series, which has attracted renowned personalities such as President Kenneth Kaunda; Professor Ali Mazrui; Congressman Donald M. Payne; Congresswoman Barbara Lee; Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Dr. Jendayi Frazer; the Executive Secretary of ECOWAS, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas; Irish Entrepreneur, Philanthropist and Founder of The Niall Mellon Township Initiative in South Africa, Niall Mellon; and the Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Affairs in Ghana, Honorable Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey. Since its inception in 2002, over 4,000 people have attended or participated in the lecture series.
