Visionaries Awards Luncheon
The Visionaries Awards Luncheon was launched on Capitol Hill in 2004 and is held annually in honor of those members of Congress with an outstanding legislative record that distinguishes them as champions of Africa. The first awardees of this Luncheon were Congressman Donald M. Payne, fondly known as “Mr. Africa,” and Congressman Ed Royce, then Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Africa. In 2005 the honorees were former Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations, Senator Richard G. Lugar and Congressman Charlie Rangel, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Ways and Means. Senator Sam Brownback and Congresswoman Barbara Lee received the award in 2006.
