AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS YEARN TO LEARN MORE ABOUT AFRICA

Though African curriculum is not a major part of the American public school system, The Africa Society of the National Summit on Africa will host over 100 tenth grade students at the Duke Ellington Performing Arts School in Northwest Washington D.C. on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Joining The Africa Society “School Invasion Program” will be Public Affairs Outreach Coordinator, Ms. Nicole Peacock, of the Office of Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy at the Department of State. The program will also showcase the popular reality series, “Whad’ya know about Africa?” which is currently being shot in the D.C. Metro area and produced by The Africa Society. |

The students will be among the first to publicly view the reality series, “Whad’ya know about Africa?” which is hosted by Leila Samara. Leila, the host, passes through sections of metropolitan Washington D.C. and asks participants general questions about Africa. The reality video highlights the general lack of knowledge about Africa and showcases the need to educate Americans about the continent.
The Africa Society School Invasion: Duke Ellington Edition will provide students with a better understanding of Africa and its role in the global community; portraying a new face of the African continent.
